These tips will help you navigate the automated ticket gates common in Japanese train stations.
You will use one of two things to go through the gate:

| IC Card | Tap! Hold your card (like Suica or Pasmo) flat on the sensor until the light turns green. Do not put the card in the slot! | タッチ (Touch) |
| Paper Ticket | Insert and Take! Put your ticket into the slot. The machine will shoot it back out on the other side. Always remember to take your ticket! | 挿入と回収 (Insert and Take) |

If the gate closes and makes a red 'X' or an alarm sound, it usually means your fare was too low (Not enough money).
